Shattered like glass, lost in the night, then you came along—a flicker of light."
"I was a storm, torn and undone, till you arrived, my rising sun."
AUTHOR'S POV(SAISHA):
The classroom was eerily silent after the lectures had ended, the last traces of chatter fading into the corridors. Saisha sat in the corner seat, her arms resting on the desk, staring blankly at her phone. Her heart felt unbearably heavy—Arsal hadn't spoken to her in a week. The only way she knew anything about him was through Rivan, his cousin.
A soft creak of the door made her look up. Rivan walked in, his sharp eyes scanning the room to make sure they were alone before approaching her.
Rivan: "Saisha, how are you holding up?"
She looked at him, forcing a weak smile.
Saisha: "I'm... surviving."
He sighed, taking the seat beside her.
Rivan: "I told you, Saisha. He doesn't deserve you. I know he's my cousin, but I also know you. I see what's happening, and I hate that you're hurting over someone who won't even acknowledge his mistakes."
Her throat tightened. She had tried—God knows she had tried—to explain herself to Arsal, to clear the doubts he had about her. But instead of understanding, he had thrown cruel words at her, words that had shattered whatever hope she had left in their relationship.
Saisha: "I just... I thought we were stronger than this. I thought he was my escape from everything. But I was wrong, wasn't I?"
Rivan's voice softened.
Rivan: "The thing is, he knows his faults. He just won't admit them. His ego won't let him. And you? You're tormenting yourself over someone who doesn't even know your worth."
A tear slipped down her cheek, and before she could stop herself, she let out a shaky breath. Rivan, ever the protective one, reached out and gave her a comforting hug.
Rivan: "You deserve better, Saisha. You always have."
But just as those words left his mouth, a loud thud echoed in the room.
They both turned to see Arsal standing at the entrance, his face twisted in fury. His fists clenched by his sides, his breathing heavy.
Arsal: "So this is what you've been doing, huh? Saisha Saksena, the girl who runs to every other guy for validation."
Saisha flinched at the accusation, her heart hammering.
Saisha: "Arsal, it's not—"
Arsal (cutting her off): "No. I get it now. I was so wrong about you this whole time. I actually believed you were different, but you—"
His voice dropped into a venomous whisper, and his next words sent a cold shiver down her spine.
Arsal: "You're nothing but a WHOR—"
CRACK!
Before he could finish, a loud punch landed on his face, knocking him back a step. Rivan stood before him, his eyes blazing with anger.
Rivan: "How dare you, Arsal?! She's like a sister to me! And you? You're nothing but an insecure, pathetic excuse for a man. You don't even deserve her!"
Saisha's hands trembled. The room spun around her as everything she had feared was unfolding right before her eyes. She couldn't take it anymore.
She grabbed her bag, turning to Arsal one last time. Her voice wavered, but she forced herself to speak.
Saisha: "I really loved you, Arsal. I really did. But that doesn't give you the right to break me down until there's nothing left. I tried to explain. I tried to fix things. But maybe... you were already tired of everything. So let's just end this."
She took a deep breath, the weight of her heartbreak pressing against her chest.
Saisha: "Let's break up."
She turned and walked out, leaving behind the only relationship she had ever truly fought for. Tears streamed down her face, but this time, she knew—there was no going back.
LATER that night after an exhausting day .
Saisha lay on her bed, staring at the dim glow of her phone screen. The room was dark except for the soft blue light reflecting off her face. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard of the anonymous app she had been using for months now.
You there?
A small notification popped up on the screen. A flicker of relief washed over her.
Saisha: "Yeah... I'm here."
Masked Man: "You sound off today."
Saisha: "I broke up with him."
A pause. She stared at the screen, waiting. The dots appeared, disappeared, then reappeared again.
Masked Man: "Took you long enough."
She let out a humorless chuckle, rolling onto her side.
Saisha: "Is that all you have to say?"
Masked Man: "Would you rather have me say 'I'm sorry'?"
Saisha: "No. I hate hearing that."
Another pause.
Masked Man: "Good. Because I'm not sorry. I saw this coming."
She sighed, rubbing her temples.
Saisha: "You make it sound like I was stupid for holding on."
Masked Man: "Not stupid. Just desperate."
That hit deeper than she wanted to admit. Her fingers tightened around the phone.
Saisha: "Maybe I was. I don't know. I just—I thought he was my way out. You know? From everything. My family, my messed-up life. But in the end, he turned out to be just like everyone else."
She swallowed, forcing herself to type the next words.
Saisha: "Isn't it funny how I've seen every phase of love? From 'I only want him' to 'I don't want anybody.'"
The reply came quicker this time.
Masked Man: "It's not funny. It's just sad."
She blinked at his words. He usually had this distant, gruff way of speaking, but sometimes—just sometimes—he said things that made her feel seen.
Saisha: "Do you think I was wrong for believing in it?"
Masked Man: "No. I think you were just hoping for something real. But you placed your hope in the wrong hands."
Her throat tightened.
Saisha: "So what now? Do I just... stop believing in love?"
A longer pause this time. She watched the dots flicker again before the message finally came through.
Masked Man: "No. You just start believing in yourself more."
Her fingers hesitated over the keyboard. Something about his words made her chest feel lighter, even if just for a second.
Saisha: "You always say things like that. Like you know exactly what I need to hear."
Masked Man: "Maybe because I do."
She frowned at her screen.
Saisha: "You're not supposed to be nice. You're the grumpy one, remember?"
Masked Man: "I never said I was nice. I just understand you."
She smiled softly, shaking her head.
Saisha: "Thank you."
Masked Man: "Don't thank me yet. You're still a mess."
She rolled her eyes but laughed despite herself.
Saisha: "And you're still an asshole."
Masked Man : "Glad we agree."
For the first time that day ,Saisha felt just a little bit okay.
AUTHOR'S POV(VIHAN):
Vihan leaned against the cold railing of his balcony, the cigarette between his fingers long forgotten. He wasn't a man of habit, not one to get addicted to things—alcohol, cigarettes, reckless thrills, none of it had ever managed to hold him. But this? This was different.
His phone vibrated in his palm, and before he could think twice, his fingers were already typing.
Vihan: "You there?"
A few seconds later, the reply came.
Gummy Bear: "Yeah... I'm here."
She sounded off. He could tell. He had been talking to her for a month now—long enough to recognize the shift in her tone, even through texts.
Vihan: "What happened?"
A pause. Then, finally—
Gummy Bear: "I broke up with him."
A smirk twitched at the corner of his lips. He shouldn't have been feeling this—this strange, twisted satisfaction. But he did. And that was the problem.
Vihan: "Took you long enough."
He imagined her rolling her eyes, maybe even pouting a little. Damn, he really wished he knew what she looked like. But at the same time, it didn't matter. The addiction wasn't in her face, her voice—it was in the way she spoke, the way she poured her thoughts into him like he was her personal diary.
Her words came through again.
Gummy Bear: "Isn't it funny how I've seen every phase of love? From 'I only want him' to 'I don't want anybody.'"
No, it wasn't funny. It was tragic.
Vihan: "It's not funny. It's just sad."
Another pause. He pictured her, curled up somewhere in her room, probably hugging a pillow. She had told him before that she had no one else to talk to—not really. And somehow, he had become that person for her.
Gummy Bear: "Do you think I was wrong for believing in it?"
Vihan: "No. I think you were just hoping for something real. But you placed your hope in the wrong hands."
He wasn't good at comforting people, but this? This was the truth.
Gummy Bear: "So what now? Do I just... stop believing in love?"
Vihan: "No. You just start believing in yourself more."
There was silence on her end. He didn't know what she was thinking, but he hoped—God, he hoped—she was letting his words sink in.
Then, finally, she typed—
Gummy Bear: "You always say things like that. Like you know exactly what I need to hear."
Vihan: "Maybe because I do."
A small chuckle escaped his lips. It was weird. He had spent years turning himself into this—cold, detached, untouchable. He had built his walls high, sealed every crack. Yet here she was, slipping through the gaps, showing him sides of himself he didn't even know existed.
She was undoing him.
Gummy Bear: "You're not supposed to be nice. You're the grumpy one, remember?"
Vihan: "I never said I was nice. I just understand you."
That was the difference. Anyone could throw comforting words around, but understanding someone? That was rare. That was dangerous.
Gummy Bear: "Thank you."
He stared at those two words, his jaw tightening.
Vihan: "Don't thank me yet. You're still a mess."
He expected her to argue, to call him out. And she did.
Gummy Bear: "And you're still an asshole."
A sharp breath left his lips. His grip on the phone tightened.
He had been called many things in life—ruthless, arrogant, heartless. No one had ever dared to speak to him like this. No one had ever thrown insults at him like they were casual endearments.
But when she said it, it didn't sound like an insult.
It sounded like a confession.
Something inside him twisted, something unfamiliar and unsettling.
Control yourself, Vihan Khurana. You can't do this.
But he was already losing.
Without thinking, he stepped onto his balcony, looking up at the night sky. He wasn't one for stargazing. He never had been. The night had always been just that—a void, an abyss.
But tonight?
Tonight, he felt something different. For the first time in years, he craved something—someone.
It was her.
His cute little Gummy Bear.
